What is Interchange?

Interchange fees are charges paid by merchants to card-issuing banks for each transaction made with a credit or debit card. These fees cover the cost of processing the transaction, fraud risk, and handling charges. 

For example, regulated debit cards, such as those issued by banks with over $10 billion in assets, have a capped interchange fee, typically around 0.05% of the transaction amount plus a fixed fee of about 21 to 22 cents per transaction. 

In contrast, credit card interchange fees can vary widely depending on the card type, transaction size, and merchant category. For instance, a standard retail transaction might incur an interchange fee of 1.5% to 2.5% of the transaction amount, while a premium rewards card could have fees as high as 3% or more. This variability in fees is one reason merchants might prefer cash transactions or use pricing strategies like interchange plus, surcharging, or cash discounts to manage costs.

What are your rates?

Determining precise payment processing rates for merchants can be challenging due to various factors that influence the final rate. These factors include the type of card used (debit, credit, rewards, etc.), the card brand (Visa, Mastercard, etc.), the merchant’s industry, the transaction size, and the method of card acceptance (in-person, online, etc.). Additionally, the interchange fees set by card networks and the markup added by the payment processor contribute to the overall rate. Given these variables, each merchant’s rate can differ significantly, making it difficult to provide a one-size-fits-all rate without a detailed analysis of their specific transaction patterns and business needs.

How long does it take?

The application process for setting up a merchant account on our platform typically takes between 5 to 10 days. This time frame allows us to tailor the technology and payment solutions to your specific business needs.
